Aikido Shusekai Instructors

Nick Walker Sensei has been teaching Aikido for over a quarter of a century. His innovative approach to the art draws upon his training in a number of different Aikido styles and in a wide range of other disciplines, including Somatic Psychology, zen, yoga, butoh, and physical theatre. He is the founder and most senior instructor of Aikido Shusekai, and the chief instructor of the Aikido Shusekai dojo in Berkeley, California.

Walker Sensei holds a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from California Institute of Integral Studies, and is currently doing graduate work there in Somatic Psychology. He is a speaker and activist for the Neurodiversity and Autistic Rights Movements. In addition to his regular Aikido classes, he conducts trainings in Aikido-based conflict resolution strategies for various groups, particularly marginalized and at-risk populations and the people who work with those populations.

Walker Sensei is a longtime member of the transformational physical theatre group Paratheatrical Research, and appears in the group's documentary films Crux and Orphans of Delirium, and in various indie feature films, including The Greater Circulation and The Invisible Forest.

Andrew Reichart Sensei began training with Nick Walker Sensei in 1987, and was one of the founding members of Aikido Shusekai. He is the founder and chief instructor of the Aikido Shusekai dojo in Los Angeles. His classes focus on developing physical coordination, personal confidence, and practical self-defense. In the background of his practice is a particular affinity for Aikido's principles of peaceful conflict resolution.

Since 2001, Reichart Sensei has explored the application of Aikido principles in business, in his capacity as Director of Operations for Beezwax Datatools, Inc., a company dedicated to creating individually-tailored win-win relationships with all its clients and workers. He is also co-leader of the Wide Sky Men's Council and the Long Beach Fire Tenders, two groups dedicated to supporting men in developing peaceful power.

Lisa Stenmark Sensei co-teaches the Youth Aikido Program at the Berkeley YMCA, and moonlights as a professor of Religious Studies.
Eric Zuckerman Sensei has been training with Nick Walker Sensei since 1996. In addition to his black belt rank in Aikido, he has earned a brown belt (2nd kup) in Tae Kwon Do Chung Do Kwan. He received a B.A. in Psychology from SUNY Albany in 1992, and is currently pursuing a Masters of Science in Human Resources Management, with a focus on workplace conflict resolution, at Golden Gate University.
